Weather Update, June 03: The Southwest monsoon has further advanced into some parts of the northwest Bay of Bengal, it also entered northeast India. Heavy rains are predicted over Assam and Meghalaya during the coming two to three days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin said, “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of northeast & east-central Bay of Bengal and most parts of Mizoram, Manipur & Nagaland.”

Meanwhile, the Southwest monsoon will further advance into some more parts of the central and north Bay of Bengal. The IMD said, “Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into some more parts of Central & North Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 2 days.”

As per the MeT Department, fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls is very likely over northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next five days. The monsoon is expected to reach Goa by Friday or Saturday.

Meanwhile, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Assam and Meghalaya till June 4 and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from June 3 to 6. Isolated extremely heavy falls are also likely over Meghalaya on Friday.

Under the influence of monsoonal westerly winds from the Arabian Sea over south peninsular India, fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorms or lightning is very likely over coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep. Isolated to scattered rainfall is predicted over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during the next five days.

The weather agency predicted heatwave conditions in isolated places over Rajasthan on June 3. Similar conditions are also predicted over south Punjab, south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, and north Madhya Pradesh on June 3 and 4 and over Vidarbha during till Sunday. There will be a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by about two-degree Celsius over most parts of northwest India during the next two days and thereafter fall by two to three-degree Celsius.
