115 rehab inmates test COVID positive as Mizoram records 863 new cases

Mizoram, August 11: At least 115 inmates of a rehab centre in Aizawl are among 863 people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing Mizoram’s tally to 46,320, a health department official said on Wednesday.

The 115 Rehab inmates of Operation Kingdom Ministry Home in Phunchawng on the outskirts of Aizawl Mizoram, were found infected with COVID-19 during a mass testing drive on Tuesday, the official said.

Mizoram also reported two more fatalities in the last 24 hours, which took the death toll to 171, he said.

The fresh 863 were reported from various districts with Aizawl registering the highest at 590, followed by Kolasib at 76 and Mamit at 53.

The single-day positivity rate was 13.21 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 6,532 samples, the official said.

37 new cases were confirmed at an RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College(ZMC), 788 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from various districts, 36 cases through TrueNat tests and 2 cases through Fluorescent Immunoassay (FIA) tests, he said.

More than 147 children and 3 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were among the newly infected people, he said.

Two patients have travel history, while the rest 861 were found to have locally contracted the infection, he said.

The number of COVID-19 active cases now stands at 12,427 and 33,722 people have recovered from the infection, including 854 on Tuesday.

Of the 863 patients, 448 have developed symptoms of Covid-19.

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 72.80 per cent and the death rate is 0.36 per cent. Mizoram has tested more than 6.95 lakh samples for COVID-19 to date.

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi over 6.41 lakh people have been vaccinated, of which 2.1 lakh people have received a full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine till Tuesday.
