Assam reports 156 COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, state tally surges to 548:
Guwahati, May 26: Assam has registered 156 positive cases for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours taking the state tally to 548.
It is the highest single-day spike in the number of positive cases in the state so far.
Out of the 156 new cases, 59 positive cases have been detected from Golaghat district, while 21 from Karimganj, 17 from Lakhimpur, nine cases from Barpeta district, eight from Guwahati quarantine center, seven cases from Kamrup (Metro) district, six from Kokrajhar, five from Sivasagar district, four each from Hailakandi, Dhemaji, three from South Salmara, two each from Tinsukia, Nalbari and one each from Jorhat, Nagaon, Morigaon and Goalpara district.
Confirming the reports, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “Nine new cases of #COVID19+ reported. Swabs for testing taken before people sent for quarantine. All from Barpeta. Total cases 548.”

Earlier, on May 23, Assam had registered 87 positive cases for the new virus.
