Manipur Tri-Nation Tournament

Imphal, March 29: Indian football fans witnessed a remarkable display of support and enthusiasm during the final match of the Tri-Nation Tournament at Khuman Lampak Stadium in Manipur.

Over 30,000 passionate football supporters came to the stadium to watch the Indian team play against the Kyrgyz Republic in the first international football tournament hosted in the northeastern state. The excitement was palpable as football fans made their way to the stadium, resulting in all roads leading to the venue being jam-packed from the afternoon onwards.

As the Indian team, led by Sunil Chhetri and Sandesh Jhingan, clinched victory against the Kyrgyz Republic, the supporters celebrated their team’s success. The match was won thanks to the heroics of the Blue Tigers, who captured the hearts of the fans with their remarkable performance.

The enthusiasm of the supporters was infectious, and the players stayed back after the match to give autographs and take selfies with their adoring fans.

The victory against the Kyrgyz Republic was especially significant because it came after a scrappy win against Myanmar. The Indian team’s performance in the final match was much better, and the supporters were thrilled to see their team play so well.

The night was star-studded both on and off the field, with a host of dignitaries in attendance, including chief minister N Biren Singh, All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey, and secretary Shaji Prabhakaran.

The signing of an MoU between the Manipur government and the AIFF to further the development of football in the state was a major highlight of the pre-match lineup. This was followed by a cultural programme showcasing the Manipuri dance.

The evening’s events culminated with everyone at the stadium paying tribute to the late Indian football legend Tulsidas Balaram, as an enlarged version of his iconic No. 10 jersey was unveiled on the field.

Then it was time for the current Indian stars to dazzle one and all with the ball and live up to the football frenzy that is characteristic of the state.

The match was a resounding success, and it demonstrated that football is a sport that is much loved and respected in Manipur. The supporters’ enthusiasm and the Indian team’s outstanding performance have provided a major boost to the sport in the region.
