3. The move could potentially shift the balance of power and influence within Arunachal Pradesh ahead of the upcoming elections.

Itanagar, Feb 14: Amid growing speculation, it has been reported that several MLAs in Arunachal Pradesh, including two from the Congress party and three from the NPP, are contemplating joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming elections.

This potential defection has stirred discussions within the political landscape, especially considering the impact it could have on the existing dynamics within the state.

The buzz intensified following Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s reported visit to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, where he was accompanied by two Congress and two NPP MLAs, alongside BJP legislators.

This move fueled rumors of potential defections, with these MLAs allegedly eyeing immediate party tickets promised by the BJP leadership.

Among the speculated MLAs considering the shift are Wanglin Lowangdong (Congress MLA from Borduria-bogapani), Gokar Basar (NPP MLA from Basar), Ninong Ering (Congress MLA from Pasighat), Chakat Aboh (Independent MLA from Khonsa West), and Mutchu Mithi (NPP MLA from Roing).

However, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has dismissed these speculations, asserting that he is unaware of any such developments and emphasizing that decisions regarding party affiliations and ticket allocations rest with the BJP high command.

Amid these rumors, Gokar Basar, the NPP MLA from Basar, has refuted the claims in an exclusive interview with India Today. Basar highlighted his substantial support base in his constituency, comprising six Zilla Parishad Members, 36 Gram Panchayat chairpersons, and various senior and retired officers.

While he acknowledged the possibility of joining the BJP if extended an invitation, he emphasized his track record of accomplishments in fostering development in the Basar constituency over the past five years.

Basar’s achievements include significant infrastructural developments such as the construction of a boxing ring arena, the installation of street mass lights, the establishment of a weekly market, improvements in school infrastructure, and upgrades to healthcare facilities.

He also underscored Leparada’s pioneering role in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, ranking sixth in the nation.

Additionally, Basar highlighted the successful hosting of various sports events in his district, showcasing his commitment to promoting sports and community engagement.

In light of these developments, Basar suggested that his political opponents may be resorting to smear campaigns and employing illicit means to thwart his potential shift to the BJP.

However, he remained focused on his commitment to serving his constituency and contributing to its progress, awaiting any official invitation from the BJP leadership.
