Guwahati, Aug 1: As the state has witnessed a sharp spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases and many patients are admitted in hospitals in critical conditions, Assam police has brought a ray of hope for those persons as 67 police personnel have come forward to donate their plasma.

67 police personnel who were cured from the novel Coronavirus infections and rejoined their duties, donate their plasma on Saturday.

During a function held at Guwahati Medical College Hospital, the police personnel had donated their plasma for treatment of other critical patients.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had felicitated the police personnel who come forward to donate their plasma.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “The Khaki stands for sacrifice & compassion!

True to the spirit, 67 recovered police personnel came forwards to donate their #plasma. So very proud to have felicitated them in presence of @Pijush_hazarika @DGPAssamPolice, Pr Secy @samirsinha69 & other officials.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that, today 67 police personnel who were cured from the new virus infections, have donated their plasma.

The Assam DGP also said that, over 1500 police personnel have infected from the virus and out of them more than 1000 have cured.

About 300 police personnel who already cured have rejoined their duties and out of the 67 personnel have donated their plasma today. We appeal to the people of the state to come forward to donate plasma and help the critical patients. We have opened helpdesk also,” Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said.

Assam has registered more than 40,000 COVID-19 positive cases so far.

98 patients have died due to COVID-19 infections in the state so far.
