7 deaths, 362 new cases of COVID in Manipur, highest since January

Manipur, May 4: Manipur recorded its highest single-day spike in COVID deaths and cases since January this year with the disease claiming seven lives and infecting 362 people in the past 24 hours.

The victims, who died at RIMS, Raj Medicity, and Shija hospitals in Imphal, include three women. They were from the valley districts of Thoubal, Imphal West, Imphal East, and Kakching.

With this, the cumulative number of deaths and active COVID cases in Manipur rose to 422 and 2,071 respectively, while the positive cases surged to 32,523, a state health department statement said on Monday.

A total of 30,030 patients have recovered from the disease, 107 of them since Sunday night, it said, adding that the overall recovery rate in the state stands at 92.33%.

The newly infected persons, all from the general population, include 157 women, and they belong to the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Noney and Kamjong.

All necessary medical precautionary measures such as containment and contact tracing have been taken up to combat the virus spread, continued the statement signed by the department’s additional director and spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.

To date 2,09,074 people, including healthcare workers, have been administered Covid vaccines across the state, the statement added.
