187 cremated following Covid norms in Bhopal while records show only 5 deaths

Bhopal, April 14: The number of deceased Covid-19 patients who are being cremated or buried in Bhopal city is far higher than what the official records have been stating over the past days.

The cremation grounds in Bhopal that would see about 5-10 bodies being brought earlier are now seeing 35-40 bodies on a daily basis.

The number of bodies that are being cremated following the Covid protocols is far higher than the numbers official figures show in Bhopal.

Meanwhile, while the government has called most of these suspected cases of Covid-19, the Opposition has said it’s a tactic to hide the real figures.

Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases in the second wave of infections over the past month.

At the Bhadbhada cremation ground and Subhash Nagar Ghat, it is found a total of 187 bodies were cremated at the two sites between Thursday and Sunday under the Covid protocols. However, the official Covid-19 death toll remains at five.

The crematoriums have established designated Covid sections to cremate those who die of Covid-19. Videos of the Bhadbhada crematorium have started doing the rounds on social media showing bodies being burnt in rows.

People were seen queuing up outside the Bhadbhada crematorium. On Monday, the crematorium burnt at least 12 bodies following Covid protocols while many other families were seen waiting for their turn to cremate a family member.

According to the official tally of Monday, the whole of Madhya Pradesh witnessed 37 Covid-19 deaths over 24 hours, however, the scenes at the Bhopal crematorium paint a different picture.
