Guwahati, Sept 13: Once again, opposition parties have directed their criticism at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, this time over allegations of a “Kisan Sampada scam” involving his wife and entrepreneur, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.
The controversy erupted on September 13 when Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi accused the Assam chief minister of leveraging his influence to secure a Rs 10 crore credit-linked subsidy for his wife’s firm under the Kisan Sampada scheme, which was designed to double the income of Indian farmers.
Gogoi’s tweet raised questions about whether Central government schemes were being manipulated for the benefit of the BJP.
In response to these allegations, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to issue a detailed clarification. He stated unequivocally, “I would like to clarify that neither my wife nor the company she is associated with has ever received any financial subsidies from the Government of India.”

The controversy surrounding these allegations highlights the ongoing political tensions and debates surrounding government schemes and their implementation. It also underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in such matters, especially in the context of Central government initiatives aimed at supporting the agricultural sector and farmers’ income. The exchange between Gaurav Gogoi and Himanta Biswa Sarma reflects the broader discourse on political accountability and ethics in India’s political landscape.
