Guwahati, Nov 02: The Assam government has unveiled a scheme to award scooters to meritorious students as part of the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Award Scheme. This initiative was announced during the weekly cabinet meeting held on November 1, along with several other significant decisions.

Under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Award Scheme, male students who have secured 75 percent or more and female students who have secured 60 percent or more in the Class 12 exams conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will receive scooters provided by the state government. The award ceremony for the scooters is scheduled for November 30, 2023.

A total of 30,209 female students and 5,566 male students who meet the specified academic criteria will be beneficiaries of this award scheme. This move is aimed at promoting education and recognizing the achievements of students who have excelled in their Class 12 examinations.

In addition to the scooter awards, students who have scored 75 percent or higher in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams conducted by the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) will receive a cash prize of Rs 15,000 under the Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme. The award distribution for this scheme will take place on November 29, 2023.

A total of 27,183 students, both male and female, who have met the academic requirements will be presented with this cash prize by the Assam state government. These initiatives are part of the government’s efforts to encourage academic excellence and provide students with the necessary resources to further their education and prospects.
