Irritated over crying, 15-year-old caretaker brutally thrashes baby

Gurugram, March 18: A 13-month-old baby was brutally assaulted allegedly by her 15-year-old caretaker, who was irritated by the toddler’s persistent crying, in the Gurugram district of Haryana. The baby girl has suffered life-threatening injuries in the assault and is said to be in critical condition.

The minor girl who doubled as domestic help has been detained by the police, police said.

The caretaker thrashed the baby with her hand and feet. The accused told police that she got irritated because of the continuous crying of the child. The baby has suffered serious injuries,” a reported in media by ACP (Sadar) Aman Yadav as saying.

The girl was hired three months ago by a cook, who was working at the home for two years, police said. According to police, the gruesome incident took place when the couple went out and left the child in the care of the girl.

When the parents returned home after an hour, the baby was crying inconsolably. Failing to calm her down, the couple took the baby to a hospital from where she was referred to Artemis hospital.

Filing a complaint with the police, the girl’s father stated that the victim has suffered “four broken rib bones” and suffered injuries in the spleen, pancreas, kidney, and liver. The FIR states that the Medico-Legal Report (MLR) lists several injuries including “multiple rib fractures with a bruise on face and abdomen“.

The baby’s father works with a real estate development firm in the city. “The child has sustained severe injuries after she was beaten by the girl. The baby is admitted to a private hospital and undergoing treatment. She is still in critical condition,” said Inspector Pawan Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 56 police station.

An FIR has been filed under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

We have arrested the girl from her home. We have also booked the baby’s parents under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act for employing a minor,” said the police officer.
