Mizoram Exhibition

Aizawl, Oct 02: Mizoram inaugurated a three-day exhibition titled “The Grand Gandhi Jayanti Exhibition” at the Circular Lawn in Raj Bhawan, Aizawl. This marks the first time an exhibition of this scale, aimed at the general public, has been hosted at the Raj Bhawan.

The event was inaugurated by Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, who paid a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, often referred to as the Father of the Nation. In his speech, the Governor emphasized that the primary objective of the exhibition was to promote local goods and artisans, aligning with Gandhi’s philosophy.

Dr. Kambhampati highlighted the significance of the Swadeshi Movement, a pivotal aspect of the struggle for freedom. He reiterated Gandhi’s assertion that Swadeshi was the soul of self-rule, emphasizing self-sufficiency in all aspects as a crucial goal of the National Movement. Gandhiji particularly stressed the importance of handloom and handicrafts in achieving economic independence.

Referring to the recently launched PM Vishwakarma scheme, the Governor noted that the Indian government has numerous schemes to support dedicated artisans and workers. He expressed optimism that micro, small, and medium industries could play a transformative role in Mizoram’s economy.

Commerce & Industries Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana, who also attended the function, encouraged Mizoram’s artisans and craftsmen to showcase their finest products, which could potentially be exported to foreign countries. He praised the innovative spirit of the Mizo people and their entrepreneurial abilities. The Minister emphasized that consumers are willing to purchase high-quality products regardless of their prices.

The three-day exhibition features 52 stalls displaying a diverse range of handloom, handicrafts, Khadi, and other cottage industry products. The exhibition will run until October 4, providing a platform for local artisans and craftsmen to showcase their talents and products to a broader audience.
