Guwahati, June 13: The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining areas of Northwest Bay of Bengal, some more areas of Odisha, most areas of West Bengal, and some areas of Jharkhand and Bihar, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Northern Limit of Monsoon runs through south Gujarat, North Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

An east-west trough (an extended low-pressure area) lies over Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Northwest Bay of Bengal, and an off-shore trough runs off the west coast. The east-west trough and the off-shore trough are likely to persist until next Thursday or Friday.

The low-pressure area, which formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal on Friday, lies over West Bengal, Odisha, and the adjoining areas on Sunday. The low-pressure area could move northwestward and is likely to be over West Bengal and Jharkhand on Tuesday, over Bihar on Wednesday, and over Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

Fairly widespread to widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over eastern and northeastern India in this period. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Odisha on Sunday and Monday, over isolated places of Jharkhand on Tuesday, and over isolated places of east Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday.

Heavy rain is likely over isolated places of West Bengal on Sunday, over Odisha on Tuesday, over Jharkhand from Sunday to Thursday, over Bihar on Sunday and Monday, over isolated places of east Uttar Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday, over isolated places of Sikkim on Monday and Thursday and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura next week.

The off-shore trough and westerly wind from the Arabian Sea are likely to persist and bring heavy rain and thunderstorm over western coastal India and Southern Coastal Indian during this period. Fairly widespread to widespread rain and thunderstorm are likely across the western coastal states of India.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely over isolated places of coastal Maharashtra and Goa from Sunday to Tuesday and over isolated places of interior Maharashtra on Monday and Tuesday.

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over isolated places of coastal Karnataka over the next five days, over isolated places of Telangana on Sunday, and over interior Karnataka and Kerala on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Telangana on Monday, Maharashtra, and Goa on Wednesday and Thursday, and interior Karnataka and Kerala on Sunday and Monday.

The low-pressure area over eastern India and westerly wind from the Arabian Sea could affect Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh and bring heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm over isolated places on Sunday and Monday.

Maximum temperatures are lower than normal over some places of plain areas across northern, north-central, and eastern India and adjoining areas by 4°C. South southern India, Western Himalayan Region, and Northeastern India are near normal or slightly higher than average in this period. Minimum temperatures are lower than normal over central India and adjoining areas.
