Tripura Gomati

Gomati, Feb 27: A 49-year-old man from the Pauamura area of Grajee in the Gomati district of Tripura has been on the run after allegedly chopping off the hand of his mother in an inebriated condition following a quarrel.

The victim, Namita Ghosh (75), has been shifted to a hospital. The incident happened on Saturday night but the neighbours initially ignored the chaos as a regular affair. But late in the night people heard loud screams of the elderly woman.

A neighbour of the Ghosh family found her lying on the floor bleeding profusely with the lower part of her right-hand severed from her body.

The victim became serious due to serious blood loss and is undergoing treatment. The accused, Bimal, was beaten up seriously before he could escape from the spot. Police have not traced Bimal yet.

Cops said, “Bimal is an addict and would often quarrel with his mother. Last night also, he was intoxicated and quarreling with his mother for money. When she refused to give him the money, in a fit of rage, he attacked her with a sharp weapon, which has also been seized from the spot.”
