Patana, Jan 29: After Nitish Kumar switched allegiance and assumed the role of Chief Minister in the NDA alliance, a notable move has been initiated against the RJD in the Bihar assembly.

Key leaders from the BJP-led coalition, including Nand Kishore Yadav and Tarkishore Prasad (former Deputy Chief Minister), Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM chief and former Chief Minister), along with JD(U)’s Vinay Kumar Choudhary, Ratnesh Sada, and other MLAs from the NDA, have submitted a no-confidence motion notice to the assembly secretary, targeting the removal of Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary, who is an RJD leader.

The decision follows Nitish Kumar’s recent departure from the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) with the RJD and Congress, and his subsequent swearing-in as Chief Minister within the NDA alliance for a record ninth time.

Nitish Kumar had originally joined the Mahagathbandhan in August 2022 after breaking ties with the BJP, citing their attempts to “split” his party.

In the wake of these political developments, the NDA in Bihar now commands 128 MLAs, surpassing the majority mark by six. Conversely, the Mahagathbandhan, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, holds 114 MLAs.

In the 243-seat Bihar assembly, the RJD stands as the single largest party with 79 MLAs, followed closely by the BJP with 78, JD(U) with 45, and Congress with 19.

The Left parties collectively have 16 MLAs, while the HAM and AIMIM account for four and one MLA, respectively. Additionally, there is one independent MLA in the House.
