New Delhi, Dec 13: Air India unveiled its latest cabin and cockpit crew uniforms, designed by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra. The new uniforms will be gradually introduced over the next few months, beginning with the service entry of Air India’s inaugural Airbus A350 aircraft.

Describing the significance of the collaboration, Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Air India expressed confidence that Manish Malhotra’s innovative designs would mark an exciting new chapter in the airline’s history. The new uniforms, he emphasized, perfectly encapsulate the essence of Air India’s evolving identity.

For the female cabin crew, the uniform features a ready-to-wear ombre saree adorned with intricate patterns inspired by Indian heritage architecture (jharokha) and the Vista, the new Air India logo icon. This ensemble is paired with a comfortable blouse and blazer.

Manish Malhotra shared his vision, stating that he aimed to create uniforms that reflect India’s diverse culture and traditions while incorporating a modern and sophisticated aesthetic. The use of symbolic Indian hues aims to instil a sense of pride in the crew and leave a lasting impression on guests, embodying the warmth and hospitality for which India is known.

The collaborative effort between cabin crew representatives and the airline’s In-flight services team, along with rigorous testing, contributed to the final uniform designs. The cockpit crew uniform features a traditional black double-breasted suit embellished with a Vista-inspired print, symbolizing professionalism, timeless elegance, and the esteemed nature of the aviation profession.

In addition to the apparel, Manish Malhotra has also designed footwear that blends style with comfort. The female cabin crew will wear dual-tone block heels in black and burgundy, while the male cabin crew will sport comfortable black Brogues.

This holistic approach to the uniform redesign underscores the commitment to combining cultural richness with contemporary elegance, ensuring a distinctive and unified visual identity for Air India’s crew members.
