Guwahati, Sept 30: The Assam state government has chosen to keep all government-run schools open on Gandhi Jayanti, which falls on October 2nd.

This decision aims to impart the values of Mahatma Gandhi to the younger generation. Schools under the Department of School Education will celebrate the International Day of Non-Violence on this date, organizing events to emphasize the significance of inclusive unity.

All stakeholders will participate in these activities, and a “Non-Violence Pledge” will be administered in all schools to commemorate the occasion.

The Assam government’s Department of School Education released a notification outlining this decision. The International Day of Non-Violence is observed globally on October 2nd, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

It was established on June 15, 2007, to spread the message of non-violence, promote education and public awareness, and reaffirm the commitment to a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding, and non-violence.
