Moreh, Jan 17: The situation in Moreh town, Manipur, remains tense as fresh gunfire erupts between security forces and armed miscreants, resulting in a fatality among the security personnel.

Reports indicate that armed miscreants launched an attack on the IRB personnel while they were sleeping near Ema Kondong Lairembi Devi Mandir, leading to the death of one CDO personnel and injuring another.

In the early morning at approximately 4 am, armed miscreants ambushed Security Forces near Ema Kondong Lairembi Devi Mandir, utilizing rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and numerous live rounds from the hilltop of Chikim Village.

Assam Rifles positioned just 20 meters from the IRB Post, covered the area using Bullet Proof Vehicles to protect IRB personnel through retaliation.

Following the initial ambush at Ema Kondong Lairembi IRB Post, armed miscreants launched another attack on security forces deployed at the SBI Bank Building Dekhunai Resort around 5:10 am.

The Superintendent of Special Commando, seeking shelter, faced Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) fire from Moreh Ward No. 7 Canan Veng during this incident.

In the ensuing ambush, one IRB personnel sustained injuries and was subsequently taken to the Medical Room of Assam Rifles at KLP for treatment.

Heavy crossfire continues at the Indo-Myanmar Border Town Moreh, involving armed miscreants and a combined team of security forces, including Assam Rifles, Gorkha Regiment, BSF, Special Commando, Moreh Commando, 5th and 6th IRB, and 8 Manipur Rifles (MR).

On January 16, Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal and Chandel warned the State Government, District Administration, and Superintendent of Police Tengnoupal.

They demanded the release of Philips K. Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate within 24 hours, threatening serious repercussions if their conditions were not met.

The responsibility for the consequences was squarely placed on the Government, District Administration, and Superintendent of Tengnoupal.
