Guwahati, Jan 17: On January 17, central Assam experienced seismic activity as an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale shook the region.

According to reports, the earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.5, occurred at 07:54:52 IST, with coordinates Lat: 26.55 and Long: 92.13, at a depth of 20 km in Darrang, Assam.

This event follows a recent earthquake in central Assam, where a magnitude 3.6 quake rattled the region, particularly impacting the districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

The seismic activity has been noticeable in various parts of the state, with significant impact reported in districts such as Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj, Nagaon, and Morigaon, among others. Tremors were even felt as far as Sonapur near Guwahati.

However, it is reported that the effects of the earthquake were less pronounced in Upper Assam districts and the western part of the state. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess any potential damage resulting from the seismic activity.
