New Delhi, March 14: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the permanence of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stating unequivocally that it will not be revoked under the BJP-led government’s tenure.

In an interview with ANI, Shah emphasized the sovereign right of India to grant citizenship and asserted that the CAA is an integral part of this prerogative.

The controversial CAA, whose rules were recently notified, has been a focal point of criticism from opposition parties.

Responding to queries about the opposition’s stance on repealing the law if they assume power, Shah dismissed such possibilities, asserting that the BJP’s dominance makes it improbable for the opposition alliance to secure victory.

Shah derided accusations from the opposition alleging that the BJP is exploiting the CAA to cultivate a new vote bank. He rebuffed these claims, highlighting the BJP’s consistency in fulfilling its promises and contrasting it with the opposition’s vacillation.

The home minister countered objections about the timing of the CAA notification, dismissing them as politically motivated fabrications.

He underscored the BJP‘s transparent commitment to the CAA, dating back to its inclusion in the party’s 2019 manifesto and subsequent passage in Parliament.

Regarding the CAA’s implementation rules, Shah characterized them as a mere formality, emphasizing that they align with the BJP’s longstanding agenda.

He criticized the opposition’s attempts to manipulate public sentiment through appeasement politics and asserted that the CAA is a law applicable nationwide.

Throughout the interview, Shah reiterated the BJP’s unwavering commitment to realizing the objectives outlined in its manifesto.

He stressed the government’s responsibility to address issues of national security, dismissing allegations of political opportunism in matters like surgical strikes and air strikes.

Shah affirmed that the CAA is a cornerstone of the BJP’s agenda and vowed to continue efforts to ensure its implementation.

He cautioned the opposition against divisive tactics, asserting that the CAA is an inclusive law aimed at safeguarding the rights of persecuted minorities.
