Meghalaya, July 23: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin his two-day visit to Meghalaya on Saturday.
He will be accompanied by Union Minister for Science and Technology and Space Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for the Ministry of Devolvement of North Eastern Region, and G Kishan Reddy, Minister of Culture and Development of North Eastern Region of India.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a meeting with chief ministers, chief secretaries and DGPs of Northeastern states on July 24. He is likely to assess the region’s law and order, as well as the Covid-19 situation.
The home minister will also inaugurate a cryogenic oxygen plant, visit the Assam Rifles headquarters in Shillong, and attend an event in Guwahati during his two-day visit on July 24 and 25.
“The home minister will chair a meeting of chief ministers, chief secretaries and DGPs of all Northeastern states in Shillong on Saturday,” a home ministry official said.
The meeting will take place at the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), where he will also review the functioning of the region’s space science and technology centre.

The NESAC, a joint initiative of the Department of Space (DoS) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), contributes to the region’s development by providing advanced space technology assistance.
K Sivan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation and Secretary of the Department of Space, and Chairman of the NESAC governing council may also attend the meeting.
The home minister is expected to take stock of the plan of action of the NESAC envisaged for all Northeastern states and the progress of the works.

Shah, during his last visit to Shillong, chaired the meeting of the NESAC and gave a few action plans for implementation. The home minister is expected to review the progress of the tasks, the officials said.
The NESAC is located in Umiam, about 20 kilometres from Shillong. It is a well-equipped state-of-the-art facility in the areas of remote sensing and geographical information system, disaster management, satellite communication and space and atmospheric science research.
The centre has provided more than 20 years of dedicated service to the eight states of the Northeastern region using space science and technology.
The primary goal of the NESAC is to provide operational remote sensing and geographic information system-aided natural resource information base to support activities in the region related to development, natural resource management, and infrastructure planning.
It offers operational satellite communication application services in the region, including education, health care, disaster management support, and developmental communication.
Other goals include conducting research in the field of space and atmospheric science, establishing an instrumentation hub, and networking with various academic institutions in the region, enabling single-window delivery of all possible space-based disaster support, and establishing a regional-level infrastructure for capacity building in the field of geospatial technology.
