Kathmandu, Nov 05: A second earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 hit Nepal in the early hours of November 5, compounding the country’s challenges as it recovers from a devastating earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale.

The National Centre for Seismology reported that the second earthquake occurred at 04:38:20 IST at a depth of 10 km, 169 km northwest of Kathmandu. This followed aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 3.3, that struck the region after the initial earthquake.

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, visited the affected areas and acknowledged the extensive damage. The government has mobilized the Nepal Army, Nepali Sentinel, and the Armed Police Force to conduct rescue operations via helicopters. Health workers equipped with essential medical supplies sourced from surrounding districts are being rapidly deployed to provide medical aid to the injured.

India has extended its support to Nepal during this challenging period. Following the initial earthquake, the Indian Embassy in Nepal released an emergency contact number for Indians requiring urgent assistance.

Additionally, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive damage in Nepal, offering support and India’s willingness to provide all possible assistance.

The impact of the earthquake was not limited to Nepal alone. Tremors were felt in several districts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, highlighting the seismic activity’s regional effects. The situation continues to evolve as emergency response efforts intensify, and authorities assess the damage and casualties resulting from these earthquakes.
