Itanagar, July 12: Arunachal Pradesh’s boxing prowess was on full display as eight out of nine boxers from the state showcased their skills and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 5th Junior Boys National Boxing Championship.

This remarkable achievement not only raises hopes for Arunachal Pradesh but also highlights the potential and talent of young boxers from the region. Hosting a national-level tournament for the first time, Arunachal Pradesh has made a significant mark in the boxing arena. The boxers from Arunachal Pradesh put on a stellar show, securing victories in their respective pre-quarterfinal bouts. Techi Jacky (46kg), Tarok Gongo (48kg), Loma Riang (50kg), Gayki Rie (52kg), Menthok Hodong (54kg), Tagio Liyak (57kg), Tarh Lohia (60kg), and Tangu Ngomle (63kg) emerged victorious, displaying their talent and determination.

In the 46kg category, Techi Jacky registered a 4-1 split decision victory over Nasim Ali from Nagaland. Tarok Gongo followed suit with a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision win over Sahil Jethi from Punjab in the 48kg category.

Loma Riang continued the winning streak in the 50kg flyweight category by defeating Sunny from Himachal Pradesh. Gayki Rie showcased his skills and emerged triumphant with a resounding 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Prashant Gurjar from Rajasthan in the 52kg light bantamweight category.

In the afternoon session, Menthok Hodong displayed superior boxing skills and secured a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision win over M. Rithiswar from Tamil Nadu in the 54kg category. Tagio Liyak advanced to the quarterfinals in the 57kg featherweight category after a hard-fought bout, securing a 4-1 split decision victory over Md. Ashfaq from Telangana.

Tarh Lohia dominated his opponent in the 60kg lightweight category, winning all rounds and securing a well-deserved 5-0 victory. Tangu Ngomle delivered an impressive performance in the 63kg category, overwhelming Isa Khan from Karnataka. The referees awarded the contest to Tangu in the third round, acknowledging his outstanding display of skill and power.

While the boxers from Arunachal Pradesh celebrated multiple victories, there was one setback towards the later part of the third day. Kabak Raju lost his pre-quarterfinal bout in the 70kg category to Yash Rana from Haryana by a unanimous 5-0 verdict. Despite this setback, the overall performance of the Arunachal Pradesh boxers remains commendable.

Haryana’s young boxers also showcased their talent and secured victories in contrasting styles. Sikander, Jatin, Yogesh Dhanda, and Vansh all advanced to the last-16 stages of the championship. Sikander demonstrated his power and control in the 48kg category, securing an easy RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) win over M. Manikanda Vishal from Tamil Nadu.

Jatin displayed precision and dominance, winning his 54kg bout against Hemanth Kumar from Telangana with an RSC third-round victory. Vansh, who faced a tough challenge in the previous round, outpunched Navaneeth Gandi from Andhra Pradesh in the 50kg category.
