Arunachal Pradesh to host one-day cross-country MTB race

Arunachal, Jan 12: The Arunachal Amateur Bicycling Association and Menchukha Cycling Club will be host a one-day MTB XC race in Menchuka, Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh, about 29 km from McMohan Line.

Arunachal MTB race distance is about 43 kilometres, with the highest elevation of 8,000 feet. Menchuka also attracts several adventure seekers as there are various trekking sites. The race is scheduled on February 10 at Chupala, Menchukha.

The MTB race route will pass through Menchukha town, Darjeeling valley, Salman Khan Point (the place where the Bollywood star came in 2018 and cycled through the valley). Then the trail climbs up to Menchukha hill, followed by a steep descent to Decchantang village. It will further pass through 400 years old Gompa called Samtem Yongcham monastery, located on the hilltop overlooking the Yargapchu valley. Thereafter the route will take you down to Lhalung, Manegang, Segong, Yorko and Yorni villages.

The entry fee is Rs 1,500 per person and includes tented accommodation, complimentary food, technical support, backup support, rescue and medical services during the race.

However, travel expenses and miscellaneous expenses including alcoholic drinks or beverages would not be covered.

The temperature goes down till sub-zero, and it is advised to carry warm clothing and gloves along with a raincoat and a sleeping bag.
