Arunachal air

Itanagar, Sept 25: Arunachal Pradesh is on the verge of expanding its air connectivity with the introduction of three new air routes by October this year. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced this development on September 24, as part of the government’s UDAN-5 scheme aimed at enhancing connectivity in the region.

The upcoming flight services will connect:

  1. Itanagar and New Delhi
  2. Itanagar and Jorhat in Assam
  3. Ruksin in East Siang district and Itanagar

These routes are expected to provide more accessible aviation services for the residents of Arunachal Pradesh. As part of this initiative, the aviation minister inaugurated several key infrastructure projects at Tezu Airport. These projects include an extended runway, a new apron, a new terminal building, a fire station, and an ATC (Air Traffic Control) Tower. The development of these facilities required an investment of Rs 170 crore.

Tezu Airport, spread across 212 acres of land, has been upgraded to accommodate ATR-72 type aircraft. Currently, it offers regular scheduled flights to Dibrugarh, Imphal, and Guwahati via Alliance Air and Flybig Airlines. The airport’s capacity is set to increase, with a peak-hour capacity for up to 300 passengers. The number of check-in counters will also expand from five to eight in the near future.

Improved Air Connectivity for Arunachal Pradesh

The introduction of these new air routes is a significant step forward for Arunachal Pradesh, a state known for its challenging terrain. Improved air connectivity will facilitate easier and faster travel for both residents and visitors. It will also contribute to the region’s economic development by boosting tourism and trade opportunities.

Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, will be directly connected to New Delhi, opening up a vital link for government officials, business travelers, and tourists. The route to Jorhat in Assam will enhance connectivity with neighboring states, promoting regional development and cooperation. Additionally, the link between Ruksin and Itanagar will provide residents with more convenient access to air travel services.

Infrastructure Development at Tezu Airport

The inauguration of various infrastructure projects at Tezu Airport demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving aviation facilities in the region. The extended runway will accommodate larger aircraft, expanding the airport’s reach and capacity. The new terminal building and additional check-in counters will enhance passenger comfort and streamline airport operations.

The construction of a fire station is a crucial safety measure, ensuring that the airport can respond effectively to emergencies. Meanwhile, the Air Traffic Control Tower will play a vital role in managing air traffic, ensuring safe and efficient operations at Tezu Airport.
