Dibrugarh, May 14: The escort vehicle of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) President Lurinjyoti Gogoi was involved in a significant road accident in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on the night of Monday, May 13.

This incident occurred while Gogoi, accompanied by his security personnel, was traveling from Dibrugarh to Lahowal, a routine trip that unexpectedly turned perilous.

According to initial reports, the driver of the escort vehicle lost control in an attempt to avoid a collision with a cyclist who suddenly appeared from the opposite direction.

This evasive maneuver caused the vehicle to veer off the road in the Bokpora area of Dibrugarh. The sudden swerve and the subsequent impact left the vehicle badly damaged.

The accident resulted in injuries to six individuals who were promptly admitted to the Assam Medical College & Hospital for medical attention.

The injured included members of Gogoi’s security detail and other occupants of the escort vehicle.

Local authorities, upon being informed of the incident, quickly arrived at the scene to assist in the rescue operations and to manage the situation.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and to ascertain any lapses in the safety protocols that might have contributed to the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver’s quick reaction to avoid the cyclist was a major factor in the vehicle losing control.

Following the accident, there was an outpouring of concern and support for the injured individuals, with many from the local community and political circles expressing their well-wishes.

The AJP, along with other political entities in the region, has called for a thorough investigation to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure the safety of political leaders and their security teams.

This incident underscores the dangers faced by political figures and their escorts while on the road, highlighting the need for stringent safety measures and protocols to protect them from such unforeseen events.

The swift response by the local authorities and the medical personnel at Assam Medical College & Hospital played a crucial role in managing the aftermath of the accident and providing necessary care to the injured.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on understanding the full circumstances surrounding the accident and implementing measures to enhance road safety for all, especially those in positions of public responsibility.
