“A country-made boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river in Dhubri district. Search and rescue teams have started the operations. More details are awaited,” said Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, chief executive officer, Assam State Disaster Management Authority, as saying.

“This mechanized country boat was meant for carrying goods only. Why the circle officer himself was traveling with so many other passengers is a matter that needs to be probed,” said Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
