Assam, June 3: Twenty-year-old Rahul Pareek from Assam has already created a buzz with his unique art of making portraits with discarded mobiles and electronics and this time it is the portrait of Sonu Sood.
Rahul has now crafted a painting with the utensils used by the labours and farmers to pay the tribute to Sonu Sood for his Nobel work.
Speaking exclusively to NE Rising, Rahul Pareek said “I have made a portrait of such a person, who has prioritized other’s welfare over his own. I have painted the portrait of Sonu Sood sir which is a small tribute from me to him. I make various artworks. The drivers, labours, farmers, serve the whole nation. But when their difficult times came ahead of them during the Covid pandemic, they found themselves helpless. They were trying to save their lives and return home.”
The young boy acknowledged the Nobel work of Bollywood actor and said, “During this time, Sonu Sood sir has helped them to return home safely, as much as possible. So I am paying this tribute to him. For the portrait, I have used materials that are commonly used by people across the country. I have used things like tiffin box, etc. that are used by drivers or labours.”
During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, several Bollywood celebrities are extending their support to those in need of medical aid. Actor Sonu Sood is one such star who left no stone unturned to help people with medical supplies, oxygen cylinders, concentrators, and more.
Earlier, Rahul Pareek of Dhubri made a portrait of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma using broken Mobiles, Computer keyboards, Fan, Pen drives, and other electronic items (e-waste).
In January 2020, he has gifted the portrait to Indian captain Virat Kohli when T20 International between India and Sri Lanka to be called off. “Virat sir was shocked to see the portrait — almost as shocked as I was to see him in real life! I asked him to take it with him but he told me moving it around would ruin it. The BCCI tweeted the video, which went viral.”
Pareek says a few days ago, he went around asking his neighbours and relatives for their old phones — once he had collected enough handsets, he set to work. Over three days, he used wires, glue, and pins to assemble the portrait together.

Pareek studies commerce at KC Das Commerce College in Dhubri and is a certificate holder in Fine Arts. He has previously made a “mechanical portrait” of Mahatma Gandhi, as well as Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal. The latter earned him a place in the India Book of Records.
In 2017, Assam boy Rahul Pareek has set an Assam record at the Assam Book of Records for making the largest portrait of legendary Indian king Agrasen Ji Maharaj. The portrait is 30 feet in height and 20 feet in width. It is made by using organic colour on waste cartoon boards in 20 days at Ganesh Akhara, Dhubri, Assam.
