2. All cabinet ministers will jointly visit Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on February 22 for the darshan of Ram Lalla.
3. Other decisions include approval for a new state university and land settlement for indigenous families.


Guwahati, Jan 23: The Assam Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, made several key decisions, including a collective visit by all cabinet ministers to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on February 22 to seek darshan of Ram Lalla.

Expressing gratitude to the honorable Prime Minister on the auspicious day of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, Cabinet Minister Jayantamallah Baruah announced the decision, emphasizing the unity of the cabinet in the pilgrimage to Ayodhya.

In addition to the visit, the cabinet approved the establishment of a new state-level university in Gohpur named after freedom fighter Swahid Kanaklata. The proposed Swahid Kanaklata University Bill is expected to be introduced in the upcoming assembly session.

Addressing land issues, the cabinet decided to de-reserve VGR/PGR land and reserve an equivalent quantum of land for VGR/PGR in the Golaghat district. It was clarified that the proposed VGR/PGR land was occupied by indigenous landless farmers before January 1, 2011.

Under the Mission Basundhara 2.0, the cabinet decided to settle land in favor of landless indigenous families in ten districts, including Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Nagaon, Biswanath, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, and Dhubri.

The settlement will benefit 418 landless indigenous families in both urban and rural areas, with 84% of the approved offers directed towards applicants from SC/ST/OBC/MOBC categories.

The cabinet further approved releasing Rs 400 crore as the second instalment of the SOPD-G fund (Normal works) to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for the financial year 2023-24, aiming at the comprehensive development of the BTC.

Another noteworthy decision involved the approval of the Assam Public Examination Measures & Prevention of Unfair Means In Recruitment Bill, 2024, aimed at curbing unfair practices during exams.
