Guwahati, Oct 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated the victims of the harrowing serial blasts that shook Assam on October 30, 2008. These coordinated terrorist attacks marked a grim chapter in the state’s history, resulting in significant loss of life and injuries.
CM Sarma took to the X platform to pay his respects and reaffirm the state government’s unwavering commitment to combating insurgency, ensuring peace, and fostering progress and harmony in Assam.
On his X platform post, CM Sarma remarked, “October 30, 2008, is a dark day in the history of Assam. On that day, many innocent people lost their lives in the clutches of insurgents. Our brothers and sisters were left with deep scars for life. On this cursed day, we pay tribute to everyone who lost their lives prematurely and express our deepest condolences to everyone who was injured.”
This solemn statement highlights the tragic impact that the serial blasts had on the lives of countless individuals, both those who perished and those who sustained lasting injuries.

The 2008 serial blasts were a devastating event that caused the loss of 80 lives and left more than 400 individuals with permanent physical disabilities. These shocking incidents unfolded across various locations, including Ganeshguri, Panbazaar, Kachari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Bongaigaon.
The orchestrator of these heinous acts was Ranjan Daimary, the founder of the now-defunct National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). Following a legal trial, Ranjan Daimary was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment. He has been serving his sentence since 2019, marking a significant milestone in delivering justice for the victims and their families.
