Guwahati, Feb 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significant growth in the state’s implementation of the PM Kisan and Fasal Bima Yojana initiatives during the fiscal year 2023-24.

Sarma emphasized the state’s dedication to supporting farmers through pro-farmer initiatives, noting the substantial increase in beneficiaries under these schemes in Assam.

The Agriculture Department’s expenditure on Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) witnessed a notable 45% rise from April to December 2023 compared to the previous fiscal year, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) scheme, an impressive amount of Rs 487.38 Crores was disbursed to 12.16 lakh farmers in Assam during the November installment of 2023.

Furthermore, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) played a crucial role in providing support to farmers, with crop insurance claims totaling Rs 234.98 Crores in the ongoing fiscal year.

This scheme benefited 2.82 lakh farmers, with a remarkable 164% surge in farmer enrollment during the Kharif season of 2023.
