Guwahati, Sept 12: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared a video showcasing the preparations for one of the state’s most significant public movements, the Amrit Brikshya Andolan.

This ambitious initiative aims to set a Guinness World Record by planting one crore (ten million) saplings in just two hours on September 17, 2023, in a bid to promote a tree-based economy and enhance the state’s green cover.

“Preparations are in full swing for one of Assam’s biggest Jan Andolans – Amrit Brikshya Andolan!,” Assam CM announced on X.

Assam is embarking on an extraordinary mission to create history by planting an astonishing one crore saplings in a single day. The goal of this Herculean effort is to stimulate a tree-centric economy within Assam and enable its citizens to reap economic benefits by cultivating commercially valuable trees.

The Assam government’s vision revolves around planting one crore commercially viable tree saplings, encouraging sustainable forest management, and empowering individuals to take ownership of these commercial trees, thus fostering economic growth and environmental conservation.

Every year, countless saplings are planted, yet many struggle to survive due to various factors. In contrast, this time, the government is committed to ensuring a significantly higher success rate. Remarkably, nearly 49 lakh people have already registered themselves on the dedicated portal to participate in this historic initiative, underscoring the substantial public engagement and support for the cause.

Beyond the Guinness World Record aspirations, this campaign carries a profound message about nurturing trees to mitigate the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change. To achieve a world record, stringent guidelines outlined by the adjudicators of Guinness World Records must be meticulously followed, ensuring the saplings’ proper planting and subsequent care.

The September 17 event represents more than just a monumental environmental initiative; it symbolizes the collective determination of Assam to make a substantial positive impact on the planet.
