Guwahati, Oct 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in a high-level review meeting in New Delhi, led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, to discuss the progress of 1,001 kilometers of highway projects in Assam.

This meeting emphasized the timely completion of 57 crucial National Highway projects, marking a significant push for the state’s infrastructure development.

Sarma stressed the importance of fast-tracking key projects to improve connectivity and boost economic growth in Assam.

Notably, he urged for the early completion of the Jorhat-Dibrugarh Highway and highlighted the approval of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor’s alignment.

Additionally, he mentioned the nearing completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Gohpur-Numaligarh Tunnel under the Brahmaputra River.

The Chief Minister also advocated for the 4-laning of the Baihata Chariali-Tezpur highway stretch, which is expected to improve regional connectivity, and called for the re-tendering of the Majuli Bridge, linking Kamalabari and Nimati Ghat, critical for the residents of Majuli Island.

Accompanying Sarma were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and several Members of Parliament from Assam, showcasing a collective commitment to advancing the state’s road network.

This united effort underscores the government’s dedication to building a stronger, more connected Assam.
