Dibrugarh, June 01: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the first solar park of Assam at Amguri in the Sivasagar district.
The 70-MW Amguri solar power park is an outcome of the Assam Accord. The foundation stone of the park was laid by former CM Sarbananda Sonowal on February 27, 2019.
This latest addition to Assam’s energy infrastructure is an attempt to shift towards cleaner energy forms, a vision we have pursued since the very beginning.

Commissioning the mega project, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the park would provide a new impetus in making Assam self-sufficient in terms of power production. He added that it was another step towards realizing PM Narendra Modi’s vision of making India ‘Aatma Nirbhar’ (self-sufficient) in electricity production and generation.

Mentioning that the solar park was a huge step toward harnessing clean and green energy, the CM said the project will go a long way in realizing the state government’s mission of generating 1,000 MW of electricity.
He further added it will aid in the creation of employment avenues for youth and also maintain environmental balance through green energy generation.
“Today is a day of great rejoicing for the people of Assam. Despite being rich in natural resources and quality manpower, the state has not been able to exploit it due to lack of planning. Way back in 2012, PM Narendra had Modi set up solar power parks in his home state, Gujarat, while Assam had to wait for 10 long years to gets its first park. The newest addition to Assam’s power infra will go a long way towards augmenting the state’s power generation capabilities, while creating employment avenues for youth,” Sarma said.
