Guwahati, April 01: Assam government employees have a reason to celebrate this Rongali Bihu as the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced a 4% hike in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) from the existing 38% to 42% with effect from January 1.

The decision will benefit serving All India Service (AIS) officers of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre under the state government, AIS pensioners, serving state government employees and pensioners, family pension holders, and extraordinary pension holders.

Cabinet Minister Keshab Mahanta called it a Bihu gift from the government to all state government employees, from IAS officers to fourth-grade employees and from pensioners to family pensioners. The three months of arrears will be paid together as part of the gift, and the salary and pension will be paid by April 10.
