Guwahati, Sep 10: Huge quantities of drugs worth nearly Rs 7 crore had been seized from Karbi Anglong and Karimgang district of Assam and 5 people had been arrested on Saturday, police said.

Acting on specific information, a joint group of police and CRPF employees released a seek operation in the Lahorijan location of Karbi Anglong district, bordering Nagaland, and seized 800 kg of ganja and 40.07 gm of heroin from an automobile coming from Manipur.

During the hunt for the automobile, the police located ganja hidden in eighty packets alongside the heroin stored interior 3 cleaning soap boxes, police said.

Three people were arrested in this connection. The value of the seized drugs in the international market was estimated to be over Rs three crore.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on Twitter and wrote, “Yet another success in @assampolice’s drive to curb the menace of drugs. Early in the morning today, @karbianglongpol seized 860 kg Ganja and 40-gram Heroin hidden in a secret chamber in a truck at Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong.”

In the second seizure, the border police for the duration of ordinary checking seized 1,108 kg of ganja from a truck coming from Tripura to the Churaibari outpost in Assam’s Karimganj district. The price of the seized contraband become anticipated to be over Rs 3.85 crore. Two humans were arrested on this connection, police added.
