Guwahati, October 1: A leader of the ruling BJP party of Assam has been arrested by police in connection with the SI (UB) recruitment examination question paper leak scam.
BJP leader Diban Deka who was absconding since last 10 days was arrested by police from Patacharkuchi area in newly formed Bajali district last night.
A team of Assam police led by an ADGP rank official had arrested the BJP leader who is one of the prime accused in the scam.
Guwahati city police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said that, police had arrested Diban Deka from Patacharkuchi area.
“We will produce him before the court today and will seek police custody. Our investigation is going on,” Munna Prasad Gupta said.
Earlier, Assam police had announced monetary reward of Rs 1 lakh each for leading to the information and location of BJP leader Diban Deka and another accused ex-DIG Prasanta Kumar Dutta.
The written examination of SI (UB) of Assam police for 597 posts was scheduled on September 20 and the examination was cancelled after its question paper was leaked through WhatsApp.
Assam police have so far arrested 21 persons in connection with the scam.
Diban Deka is a national executive member of Krishan Morcha of BJP and he had contested as a BJP candidate from Borkhetri assembly constituency in Nalbari district in 2011 assembly polls.
On the other hand, Assam State BJP has suspended Diban Deka from the primary membership of the party.
