Assam: Railways official murdered by brother-in-law, throws body at Saraighat Bridge

Guwahati, May 27: In a heart-wrenching incident amid the night curfew hours, a Railways official was allegedly murdered by his brother-in-law and the body was recovered from Saraighat bridge late in the evening hours by Kamrup district police.

The deceased Railway official has been identified as Santosh Prasad and was a resident of Maligaon Railway Colony in Guwahati.

The accused brother-in-law has been identified as Mohan Giri. Santosh Prasad’s throat was cut by his brother-in-law and was also repeatedly stabbed in his stomach, leading to his death.

Mohan Giri, after killing Santosh Prasad had brought his body to the Saraighat Bridge in a trunk on a scooter during curfew hours on Wednesday night to dispose of the body in the Brahmaputra River.

Witnessing police at the Saraighat Bridge, Mohan Giri threw the Railways official Santos’s body at the Bridge and fled from the spot. Alter police personnel chased Mohan Giri and apprehended Mohan Giri. Police also seized the scooter bearing registration number AS 01 DX 5822 that Mohan Giri was riding.

However, three other accomplices of Mohan Giri managed to escape from the spot.

Police have begun an investigation into the case. The reason behind the crime is yet to be known.
