Aizawl, Jan 12: Assam Rifles (East) successfully seized a substantial quantity of narcotics in different areas of Mizoram, leading to multiple arrests.

The operations, conducted on January 11 in Siaha district and Champhai district, resulted in the confiscation of heroin and methamphetamine tablets, collectively valued at Rs 68 crore.

In the first operation, Assam Rifles recovered 225 grams of Heroin No. 4, estimated at Rs 1.75 crore, in the general area of Bualpui, Siaha district. Additionally, two individuals were apprehended during the operation.

Simultaneously, in the Zokhawthar-Melbuk road area of Champhai district, the security forces seized 20 packets of Methamphetamine tablets weighing 22.220 kg, with a market value of Rs 66.66 crore. One person was apprehended in connection with this operation.

The Assam Rifles initiated these actions based on specific intelligence about the movement of narcotics in the region. The seized contraband and the arrested individuals were subsequently handed over to the Excise and Narcotics departments in Siaha and Champhai for further legal proceedings.

This successful operation followed a prior anti-drug effort on January 10, where Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Police and Custom Preventive Force, conducted two separate operations in Champhai district on January 8.

During these operations, 139 grams of Heroin worth Rs 97.30 lakh and 20 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes valued at Rs 26 lakh were seized.

The coordinated efforts of Assam Rifles, Zokhawthar, and Champhai from the Customs Preventive Force were instrumental in carrying out these operations. The total value of the seized Heroin No. 4 and foreign-origin cigarettes amounted to Rs. 1.23 crore.

The search operations were conducted in the general areas of Crossing Point I, Zokhawthar, and Jail Veng, Champhai, leading to the successful confiscation of the contraband.

These operations reflect the commitment of security forces to curb the illicit drug trade in the region and contribute to maintaining law and order.

The collaboration between various law enforcement agencies showcases a comprehensive approach to tackle the menace of drug trafficking in Mizoram.
