Bishnupur, May 13: An Assam Rifles jawan was injured while defusing a bomb in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, adding to the growing list of attacks on security forces in the region.
The incident occurred on Friday morning at Saitan village, about 60 km south of Imphal. According to a defence spokesperson, the improvised bomb was locally fabricated, and the soldier, who was attempting to defuse it, did not suffer major injuries.
This is not the first time that security forces have been targeted in the region. On Thursday, a policeman was killed and four others injured when suspected militants opened fire at them near Tera Khongfangbi in Bishnupur district. The attack was another reminder of the volatile situation in Manipur, which has seen a spate of attacks on security forces in recent years.
Earlier on Wednesday, an Assam Rifles jawan was injured when unidentified miscreants fired upon a patrol party of the paramilitary forces at Dolaithabi in the Imphal East district.
