Agartala, July 18: The Radhanagar Battalion of Agartala Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), successfully seized 103 kg of marijuana valued at Rs 41 lakh in the General Area Ambassa, under Ambassa PS, Dhalai District, Tripura on July 18, 2023.

Acting on credible information, a joint operation was launched by the Radhanagar Battalion and Ambassa PS, leading to the apprehension of two individuals and the confiscation of 103 kg of marijuana, estimated to be worth approximately Rs. 41 lakh. Additionally, a light motor vehicle used in the illegal trade was also seized during the operation.

The apprehended individuals, along with the seized contraband, were promptly handed over to Ambassa PS, Dhalai District, Tripura on the same day for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The successful operation by Assam Rifles underscores their unwavering commitment to creating a drug-free society and curbing the menace of drug trafficking in the region. This seizure comes as a major blow to drug peddlers, sending a strong message that illegal drug activities will not be tolerated in the state.

In a separate event on July 17, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over the Regional Conference on ‘Drugs Trafficking and National Security’ in New Delhi. During the conference, the Home Minister witnessed the destruction of confiscated drugs in Tripura through a video conference.

Tripura Police organized a mega drug destruction program as part of the conference, where a substantial quantity of illicit drugs was destroyed. The items included 5473 kgs of ganja (cannabis), 5138 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, 19313 tablets of Yaba, and 6381 grams of heroin. The total estimated value of the destroyed drugs is Rs. 9.5 crore.
