Guwahati, Oct 29: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal officially flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon in Guwahati, commemorating India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, as part of the celebrations for ‘National Unity Day.’

This event was a tribute to Patel’s monumental role in uniting the nation.

During the marathon’s inauguration, Sonowal expressed his gratitude towards the people of Assam for their unwavering support, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the Port and Shipping Ministry in organizing this event.

He emphasized that the marathon served as an opportunity for all participants to pay homage to Sardar Patel, whose contributions to the country remain invaluable.

The ‘Run for Unity’ was not limited to Guwahati; similar events were simultaneously held across India. In Karnataka, BJP chief BY Vijayendra took part in the local edition, where he underscored Patel’s immense sacrifices and contributions to the nation, urging the youth to remember and honor his legacy.

In Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed participants at the Unity Run, asserting that the event symbolizes not only the commitment to India’s unity but also the broader vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

Shah noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the organization of the Unity Run in memory of Sardar Patel. This year, the event coincided with Dhanteras, aligning with the festive spirit of Diwali.

The ‘Run for Unity’ has established itself as an annual tradition, celebrated across the nation on ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day).

This event not only honors the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel but also reinforces the message of unity among the diverse cultures and communities of India.
