Bharat Ratna

1. President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, to four eminent individuals.
2. The recipients, including Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, Karpoori Thakur, and MS Swaminathan, were honored posthumously.
3. The ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, with dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in attendance.


New Delhi, March 30: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, upon four distinguished individuals in a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The recipients included socialist leader Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, and renowned agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, all of whom were honored posthumously.

The fifth awardee, LK Advani, was unable to attend the ceremony due to illness but is scheduled to receive the award at his residence the following day.

At the ceremony, PV Narasimha Rao’s son, PV Prabhakar Rao, received the award on behalf of his father, while Chaudhary Charan Singh’s grandson, Jayant Singh, accepted the honor on behalf of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president.

Swaminathan’s daughter, Nitya Rao, and Karpoori Thakur’s son, Ram Nath Thakur, were also present to receive the awards on behalf of their respective fathers.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and others, marking a significant moment of recognition for the contributions of these esteemed individuals to the nation.
