Imphal, April 14: Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh, the BJP candidate for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, emphasized the critical need to uphold unity and integrity in Manipur as the state braces for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He stressed the accomplishments of his party and the government in serving the people of Manipur.

Singh pledged to prioritize peacebuilding efforts and the resettlement of displaced individuals as key objectives of his electoral campaign. He aimed to address these pressing issues to ensure a brighter future for Manipur.

However, tensions escalated in Manipur ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit, resulting in tragic violence that claimed two lives.

Clashes between village volunteers from Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi and Meitei-dominated Imphal East intensified at Moirangpurel, following previous cross-firing incidents in other districts.

According to reports, Kuki village guards initiated the violence by launching rounds and shell explosives from Kamuching under Maphou Dam PS, Kangpokpi district, towards Moirangpurel in Imphal East.

In response, volunteers from Moirangpurel retaliated, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of two Kuki village guards.
