Gangtok, Jan 29: Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Sikkim convened a crucial meeting to assess the party’s organizational strength and formulate strategies in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and concurrent assembly elections in the state.

The meeting witnessed the presence of key figures, including the BJP’s state president, DR Thapa, chief advisor Tseten Tashi Bhutia, and other executive members. The discussions focused on evaluating the party’s organizational robustness, analyzing its growth trajectory in Sikkim, and devising a comprehensive roadmap for the imminent elections.

One of the primary focal points during the meeting was the emphasis on bolstering the party’s foundation at the grassroots level. The state leadership stressed the importance of strengthening the organization at its core to ensure a resilient and effective electoral campaign.

In his address to the gathering, DR Thapa highlighted the significance of collective responsibility in propelling the party’s growth.

He urged all members to collaborate closely, underlining that only through concerted efforts could the organization thrive and accomplish its objectives.

As the BJP strategizes for the upcoming elections in Sikkim, it currently holds 12 out of the 32 seats in the state assembly.

The party did not secure any seats in the previous assembly election, where the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) emerged victorious. However, following the elections, a significant political development occurred when 10 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) defected to the BJP, transforming it into the second-largest party in the assembly almost overnight.

Subsequently, the BJP also emerged victorious in by-elections for two additional seats, solidifying its position with a total tally of 12 seats in the Sikkim assembly.
