Out of 6,889 panchayat seats, including gram panchayats, panchayat samiti, and zilla parishads, the BJP won 4,805 seats uncontested.
In the gram panchayats, BJP won 4,550 out of 6,370 seats uncontested, meaning no polling will occur in 71% of the seats.
For the remaining 1,819 gram panchayat seats where polling will be held, BJP has candidates in 1,809 seats, CPI(M) in 1,222, and Congress in 731, according to State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Asit Kumar Das. BJP ally Tipra Motha has fielded candidates in 138 seats.
Polling in one seat in Maheskhala Panchayat, West Tripura, is postponed due to the BJP candidate’s death.
In the panchayat samitis, BJP won 235 out of 423 seats uncontested, accounting for 55%. Polling will be held for 188 seats, with BJP fielding candidates in all, CPI(M) in 148, Congress in 98, and Tipra Motha in 11.
For the zilla parishads, BJP won 20 out of 116 seats uncontested, around 17%. BJP has candidates in all 96 contested seats, while CPI(M) and Congress have 81 and 76 candidates, respectively.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature was July 22, with polling scheduled for August 8 and vote counting on August 12.
In the last elections, BJP won 96% of seats in the three-tier panchayat system unopposed.
