New Delhi, March 02: Former Union Minister and BJP MP from Hazaribagh, Jayant Sinha, has opted out of contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, citing his intention to focus on combating climate change both in India and globally.

In a statement, Sinha expressed his request to BJP president JP Nadda to relieve him of his direct electoral responsibilities to channel his efforts towards addressing the pressing issue of climate change. While stepping back from electoral duties, he affirmed his commitment to continue working with the party on economic and governance matters.

Sinha, who previously held positions such as Minister of State for Finance and Civil Aviation in the Narendra Modi Cabinet, conveyed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the opportunities he had been provided during his tenure.

His decision to withdraw from electoral participation comes shortly after another BJP leader, Gautam Gambhir, made a similar appeal to JP Nadda.

Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer, cited his upcoming commitments in cricket, particularly as a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as the reason for his request to step away from political duties.

The BJP is reportedly preparing to announce its first list of 100 Lok Sabha candidates in the coming days, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently holding discussions with party leadership.

The focus is expected to be on introducing fresh faces, potentially including several women leaders in the candidate lineup.
