Kolkata, Jan 29: The West Bengal Congress has taken strong exception to an obscene remark made by BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari against Rahul Gandhi.

The party filed a police complaint demanding an “unconditional apology” from Adhikari while expressing its disappointment over the use of derogatory language.

Suman Roy Chaudhuri, secretary of the Bengal Congress, and Abhishek Bannerjee, spokesperson of the party’s state unit, lodged a formal complaint with the Raiganj police station.

The complaint condemns Adhikari’s use of an offensive word while commenting on Rahul Gandhi and calls for immediate redressal.

Adhikari faced criticism for his comments about Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.’ In response to reporters’ questions, he used an obscene word to express his thoughts on the Congress leader.

The BJP MLA’s comments have sparked outrage and condemnation from political opponents, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongly opposing the usage of offensive language.

Kunal Ghosh, Trinamool Congress general secretary and spokesperson, shared the video of Adhikari’s remarks on social media, denouncing the use of “uncivilized and bad culture” in politics. Ghosh emphasized the need to halt such language, expressing disapproval of the derogatory words used by Adhikari against Rahul Gandhi.

Suman Roy Chaudhari questioned the BJP’s ideological stance, highlighting the impact of language on the party’s reputation.

He criticized Adhikari for using derogatory language against Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in the INDIA alliance. Chaudhari pointed out that the choice of words reflects the culture of Adhikari and the BJP.

The Bengal Congress has demanded an “unconditional apology” from Suvendu Adhikari within 24 hours. Suman Roy Chaudhari warned that failure to issue an apology would prompt Congress to take legal action.

The party is resolute in its stand against the use of offensive language, especially targeting a popular public figure like Rahul Gandhi.
