Delhi, Jan 08: The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the schedule for assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa. As per the schedule, voting for the assembly elections in these five states will be held between February 10 and March 7. The election in five states will be completed in 7 phases.

Votes for all five assembly elections will be counted on March 10.

Counting on March 10

Election

A total of 690 assembly constituencies will go to the polls in 2022. Election Commission teams visited all states, talked to political parties and top state bureaucrats before taking a call.

Chief Election Commissioner, Sushil Chandra said that “For the past two years, Covid has made conducting elections difficult. We have to conduct elections in a way which saves both voters and parties.”

The number of polling stations has been increased by 16%. A total of 1,620 polling stations will be manned by women staff.

The elections commission said all polling staffers will be doubly vaccinated and it has asked all state chief secretaries to accelerate vaccinations in their state. The commission has also increased the polling time in all states going to the polls.
