Shillong, Nov 28: The Meghalaya government has designated Chigitchakgre village in West Garo Hills District as a ‘Bee Village’ under the Apiculture Mission. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting bee farmers by providing training, financial assistance, bee boxes, beekeeping tools, and multi-facility buildings.

These buildings will include stock rooms, training rooms, and areas for selling and displaying bee products. Sangma highlighted the importance of programs like CM Elevate and YESS Meghalaya for the youth and encouraged them to take advantage of these initiatives.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sangma announced the declaration of Chigitchakgre village as a ‘Bee Village’ under the Apiculture Mission 2.0, emphasizing the positive progress of the mission. Additionally, he pledged Rs 10 lakhs from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund to support the village’s beekeeping efforts.

Sangma expressed his commitment to assisting the village in enhancing honey production, ensuring the quality of bottled honey, marketing their products, and developing infrastructure for promoting Apitourism in the Bee Village.

During his speech, the Chief Minister interacted with the youth and women of the village. The declaration of Chigitchakgre as a ‘Bee Village’ is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote apiculture and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for the people of Meghalaya.

The initiative aims to empower bee farmers by offering comprehensive support and resources to enhance their beekeeping activities and contribute to the growth of the apiculture sector in the region.
